Richard S. Hill has been Novellus' chief executive officer and a member of the board
of directors since 1993. He was appointed chairman of the board in May 1996.
Before joining Novellus, Mr. Hill spent 12 years at Tektronix, Inc., where he held a variety of positions, including president of Tektronix Development Company, vice president of the Test and Measurement Group and president of Tektronix Components Corporation. Prior to joining Tektronix, he held engineering management positions
at General Electric, Motorola and Hughes Aircraft Company.
Mr. Hill holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in business administration from Syracuse University. He is Chairman of the University of Illinois Foundation and serves on the boards of LSI, Arrow Electronics and SemiLEDs.
Timothy M. Archer
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Archer is the Chief Operating Officer for Novellus Systems, Inc. In this capacity he is responsible for the company's manufacturing operations, supply chain management, corporate quality, sales, marketing, and customer satisfaction organizations.
Since joining Novellus in 1994, Mr. Archer has held a number of positions including executive vice president of sales, marketing, and customer satisfaction, executive vice president of the PECVD and Electrofill business units, senior vice president of the Dielectrics Group, vice president and general manager for the Electrofill Business Unit, senior director of technology for the Electrofill Business Unit, and senior director of technology for Novellus Systems Japan.
Before joining Novellus, Mr. Archer was employed at Tektronix, Inc. where he was responsible for process development for high-speed bipolar integrated circuits.
Mr. Archer completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics from the California Institute of Technology.
Fusen Chen Ph. D.
Executive Vice President, Semiconductor Systems Products
Dr. Fusen Chen is executive vice president, with responsibility for all product business units at Novellus. Dr. Chen also oversees technology strategy and direction for the company.
Dr. Chen joined Novellus in 2004 as senior vice president of Asia Pacific operations. Prior to joining Novellus, Dr. Chen spent 10 years at Applied Materials, most recently
as the group vice president and general manager for the company's Copper Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) & Interconnect Product Business Group. Prior to joining Applied Materials, he worked at LSI Logic and SGS-Thomson Microelectronics.
Dr. Chen holds a bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering from the National Tsing Hua University (Hsinchu, Taiwan) and a doctorate degree in materials science and engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Andrew Gottlieb
Vice President and General Counsel
Andrew Gottlieb is vice president and general counsel for Novellus. He joined the company in October 2008 as vice president, global tax.
Prior to joining Novellus, Mr. Gottlieb held tax management positions at Cisco Systems and Deloitte & Touche, and corporate legal positions at Sigma Networks, Sun Microsystems and Baker & McKenzie. He has also held counsel positions with the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Mr. Gottlieb received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Arizona, and his Juris Doctorate from Ohio State University.
John Hertz
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
John Hertz was appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Novellus Systems, Inc. in June 2010. Mr. Hertz joined Novellus in June 2007 as Vice President and Corporate Controller and was later appointed Vice President Finance and Principal Accounting Officer in December of 2007.
Prior to joining Novellus, Mr. Hertz was the Financial Controller for the Digital Enterprise Group at Intel. During his seven-year career with Intel, he led the establishment of a new organization responsible for Intel's Corporate Accounting and New Business Accounting Policies. Earlier in his career, he served as Assurance Senior Manager at KPMG and was selected to serve a two-year term as a Practice Fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Mr. Hertz received his bachelor of science degree in business from Montana State University.
